Poems Unbidden
I like poems that say something, convey something, pray something.
I like poems that rhyme, and climb, and find.
I like poems that fan like birds on a windy night
in silhouetted flight against a swelling moon,
that thrill like music through my veins a known yet nameless
tune.
I like poems from long ago through times translation come
to strike a fire within my soul
the kiss of a distant sun.
I like poems that come to me unbidden in the night
to press against my open palm an unsevered thread of light.
